Schrage Honors Scholarship Recipients

On Thursday, June 13, Centier Bank’s President and CEO Michael E. Schrage hosted a dinner The Patio restaurant to recognize the 1996 Schrage Family Scholarship winners, their parents and their most influential teacher. These seniors will receive $2,000 each over a four period in increments of $500 per year.

At the banquet each students received a one-of-a-kind cast metal replica of the original bank building located in Whiting, founded by Henry Schrage. The banquet also provided an opportunity for the students to express their gratitude to their parents and selected teacher as well as speak with last year’s Scholarship recipients, who have just completed their first year of college. The 1996 Schrage Family Scholarship recipients include: Elizabeth Slatton, Portage High School; Joseph Curosh, Whiting High School; Deborah Kings, Merrillville High School; Mark Brennan, Chesterton High School; Jana Solomon, Highland High School; Lawrence Haggerman, Crown Point High School; Andrea Dorin, Lake Central High School; Manual Amezcua, George Rodgers Clark High school; Catherine Truett, Lowell High School; and Nathan Rasmussen, Valparaiso High School.

In recognition of Centier Bank’s 100th Anniversary and the Bank founder, Henry Schrage, Centier introduced the Schrage Family Scholarship in April 1995. The scholarship reaffirms Centier Bank’s commitment to the families and communities it serves. The scholarship rewards academic achievement as well as community leadership. Annually, one public high school graduate in each of the communities served by Centier will receive a four-year, renewable college scholarship from the Foundation. The Foundation is administered the Legacy Foundation, Inc., a public benefit corporation which supports programs and activities serving the residents of Northwest Indiana. As an added bonus, The Lily Foundation is contributing a matching gift of 50 cents for each dollar the Foundation totaling $50,000 that will become part of the permanent endowment of the Legacy Foundation of Northwest Indiana.
