Appointment of Michael E. Schrage as general chairman of Our Lady of Mercy Hospital's $750,000 capital funds campaign was announced today by James F. Purcell, hospital divisional board chairman.

Schrage, president, First Bank of Whiting, will, head a committee of campaign volunteers from central and western Lake County and adjacent Cook and Will Counties.

The public phase of Mercy Challenge Fund will get under way in early December.

Schrage is a director of Trade Winds Rehabilitation Center. Inc. and the Calumet Council, Boy Scouts of America, and is a member of the Hammond Y.M.C.A. Advisory Board.

He attended Culver Military Academy and received a bachelor's degree in economics from Denison University and an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado.

Schrage, whose family has been a banking tradition In the Lake County area for over 85 years, joined the First Bank of Whiting in 1972.

He and his wife, the former Jill Seberger, of Dyer, reside In Munster with daughter, Laura Lynn.
