MERRILLVIILE - Michael E. Schrage, president and chief executive officer of Centier Bank, has announced the establishment of a $100,000 Schrage Family Scholarship Foundation.

The announcement was made Wednesday during a scholarship tea at The Patio restaurant.

In recognition of the bank's centennial anniversary, the foundation will award a $2,000 scholarship every year to a graduating senior at each of the 10 high schools In Centier's communities.

“Our 100th anniversary ls a time of celebration for us . . . a time to reflect on the uniqueness of being under the management of four generations of the same family," Schrage said.

As Lake and Porter counties' locally owned and managed bank, this foundation and the scholarships it will provide each year reaffirm our commitment to our communities and to remaining their premier, independent bank," he said.

The scholarships will be awarded to students who have achieved excellence in academics, as well as school and community leadership.

Funds will be distributed in $500 payments each August for four years. After the initial $500 payment, payments thereafter require a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 - based on a 4.0 scale - as reflected on the prior spring's grade report.

As a scholarship recipient, the successful students also will have the opportunity to apply for summer Internships at the bank to gain hands-on business knowledge and experience.

A representative of either the Schrage family or Centier Bank's senior management will present the scholarship at each of the school's awards ceremonies or commencement celebrations.

Additionally, Centier Bank will hold a scholarship banquet for the 10 recipients, their parents or guardians, and the student's choice as their most Influential teacher.
